About Glass & Brown Paper Pantry

Our Story

Glass and Brown Paper Pantry is a Tasmanian, family owned and operated business, located in the heart of New Norfolk. Our little forest green shop offers an old fashioned shopping experience with an emphasis on friendly customer service.

After years of complaining that there were no plastic-free options and no whole foods or dedicated fine food stores in the Derwent Valley, we decided to put our money where our mouths were.

In 2022, we opened our doors and unleashed The Drunken Fig Cheesecake upon the good people of New Norfolk… along with plastic-free groceries, pantry staples, eco-friendly home and beauty products, and local produce.

Our Store & Service

Heat and eat takeaway meals and just-add-water convenience meals adorn our shelves. And let’s not forget the delectable sweet treat jars (like the aforementioned cheesecake).

We offer personalised in-store shopping, click and collect, and home delivery, so you can shop in the way that best suits you, at a time that fits in with your family’s schedule.

We’ve got something for everyone, including those on special diets such as a gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan lifestyle.

We take food allergies seriously and always do our very best when handling common allergens such as gluten or dairy.

Our store has a toy basket for the wee folk who come to visit, and we are happy to close the front door to contain any young runners!

Having shopped with children once or twice (one of whom was a committed runner), we know the perils all too well and want parents to be able to amble about for a minute without stress.

When you love what you do, it shines through as you do it, and we like to think our customers can see that every time they come through the doors.

Our Packaging Journey is Your Packaging Journey

We package all of our products in either glass or brown paper and we are named in such a way as to make it bleedingly obvious.

Some of our products (such as meats and some meal jars) are packaged in a home compostable faux-plastic made from Australian melaleuca. Some of our brown paper bags have little windows made from cornstarch, which allows you to see the contents of the bag. Both of these packaging options are fully home compostable.

We encourage you to bring your own containers into our store to purchase all your pantry staples. All you need to do is weigh the jar, print a sticker, or write on the jar with a magic marker. We can deduct the weight of your container at the point of sale.

We also sell a range of beautiful, US made, recycled glass jars with sustainably sourced acacia lids, and multi-sized plain, Australian-made jars.

As we all know, recycling is great, but reusing is better. Our customer loyalty programme means that you benefit from returning your jars, and the planet benefits from our commitment to reusing them. Every fifteen jars returned earn you a 15% discount voucher. You can use it for your next shop, or save it for a rainy day.
